Toys “R” Us reopens, now sells customer data [WIRED]

Wired reports how Toys “R” Us, after having filing bankruptcy, reopened two new stores ahead of the holidays. They have partnered with a new startup, b8ta that would track and monitor foot traffic and behavior in-store to then sell to companies looking to distribute products in physical stores.

The company claims that its algorithm knows to ignore children so only adult behavior is tracked, keeping the toy retailer and startup safe from strict child privacy laws.
