Apple has released an open-source set of tools and resources called the Password Manager Resources. The company hopes that developers of password managers and other apps will use them to create strong passwords.
The tool will make it easier to generate passwords that will work given a websites specific rules for creating a password. For example, some websites only require a password with 8 characters or more, while others may cap a password at 16 characters, and others specify the use of numbers and uppercase letters but may not allow special characters like !, ?, or &.
If adopted, this should make using strong passwords across apps and sites much easier for users, improving the security and privacy of millions.
