Social media data and public records used to select jurors

Motherboard has discovered that companies like Momus Analytics’ are scraping public records and social media profiles in order to build profiles and suggest potential jurors for attorneys.

Some of this data and profiling include race and gender, two classes of information that are illegal to use the considering who to place on the jury.

Motherboard has also found that other companies were using IBM Watson to scrap data and build profiles that classified potential jurors into several classes of personality types.

This is just another reason why you should consider keeping your social media profile as ‘private’ as it’s impossible to know who and for what reason your social media profile data and posts may be collected.
