Amazon’s Ring App shares personal info with third-party trackers [EFF]

The hits keep on coming with Amazon Ring. The company, which provides cameras for customers to place on the front-facing doors, has been criticized numerous times for its longstanding privacy issues such as sharing its users info with police departments and allowing them to access customers’ footage without their permission.

The EFF just published an exclusive investigation showing that Ring’s Android apps shared personally identifiable information (PII) with third-party trackers including Facebook. The information shared included IP addresses, sensor data, mobile network carriers and persistent identifiers such as unique IDs, device models, screen resolution and more.
